Chargers Set for NEAC Quarterfinals

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team will host a North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinal for the first time in two seasons on Tuesday night, as the Chargers welcome Penn College to Horst Athletic Center at 7 p.m. The other NEAC Quarterfinal will take place in the North Division, as Morrisville State hosts Cazenovia at 7 p.m.
 
The Chargers defeated Penn College twice this season, including an 85-63 victory at Horst Athletic Center on Jan. 29, and Lancaster Bible is a perfect 14-0 all-time against the Wildcats.

Regular Season Meetings
Jan. 29, 2020: The teams went to halftime tied at 35-35, but Lancaster Bible outscored the Wildcats, 50-28 in the second half, and won, 85-63…The Chargers shot 54.5 percent (18-of-33) from the floor in the second half, and were led by a career-best 20 points from Luke Beers…Jordan Shewbridge added 17 points, while Britton Beachy had nine points, five rebounds, and four assists…The Chargers also outscored the Wildcats, 29-9 in points off turnovers…Elijah Vazquez and Ben Sosa each had 16 points for Penn College.
 
Feb. 12, 2020: Lancaster Bible used a 12-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half to build a 40-27 halftime lead, before increasing it to 52-32 four minutes into the second half…The Chargers maintained the lead throughout the second half, and won their second straight game…Shewbridge had a game-high 22 points, while Beers added 14…William Afoakwah had 12 points and 10 rebounds as well for the Chargers…Lancaster Bible had 14 offensive boards, and led 16-2 in second-chance points…Sosa had a team-high 15 points for Penn College.
 
How they Got Here
Penn College: The Wildcats are making their first-ever NEAC postseason appearance, and their first overall playoff appearances since the 2010-11 season when they were members of the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC)…Penn College finished just 5-11 in NEAC play overall, but were 5-5 in NEAC South Division play and won the right games, including three straight wins over Penn St. Abington, Penn St. Berks, and Gallaudet in mid-January.
 
Lancaster Bible: The Chargers played terrific basketball from Jan.11 to Feb. 15, as the Chargers went 10-2 overall, and posted seven wins over NEAC South Division opponents…Lancaster Bible finished 10-6 in NEAC play overall and 7-3 in NEAC South Division play, and has won eight of its past nine home games.
 
Statistically Speaking
Penn College: Penn College is averaging 77.3 points per game, but the Wildcats also give up 84.1 points per contest…The Wildcats shoot well from the floor at 45.5 percent, including a 36.4 percent mark from 3-point range…Sosa leads the way at 17.0 points per contest, and is also the team-leader in rebounds at 7.0 per game…Sosa has scored 20 or more points in a game 10 times this season, including three of the final four games of the regular season…Vazquez (14.1), Carson Garvis (11.8), and Fred Young (10.1) also average double figures for the Wildcats.

Team Notes
Penn College: The Wildcats are 4-9 in road games this season…Ryan Lockman is shooting an incredible 68.1 percent (77-of-113) from the floor…Like the Chargers, Penn College struggled down the stretch, as the Wildcats went just 1-4 in their final five games…The one win clinched a playoff berth for the Wildcats however, as they crushed Gallaudet, 92-60 in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 18...You can read Penn College's preview of the game HERE.
 
Lancaster Bible: The Chargers are 8-3 this season at Horst Athletic Center…This is just the third time in program history Lancaster Bible has had to play a NEAC Quarterfinal contest, and the Chargers are 2-0 in the previous two games…In its most recent NEAC Quarterfinal, the Chargers defeated Penn St. Abington, 83-68 in 2017-18 en route to a NEAC Championship…Lancaster Bible is 8-4 all-time in the NEAC Playoffs since joining the conference for the 2011-12 season.
