The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team defeated Kean for the first time in program history on Tuesday night, downing the Cougars, 3-0 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers move to 8-2 this season with the 26-24, 25-19, 25-9 victory, while Kean dropped to 1-6 overall.
Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible strung together six straight points early in the first set to grab an 11-8 lead, but Kean battled back to tie the set at 15-15, and then took a 17-16 lead three points later. The teams went back-and-forth from that point, and Lancaster Bible earned a 24-23 set point thanks to a kill from
Kyran Flahive. Kean fought off the set point thanks to a service error by the Chargers, but a kill from
Kole Horst, followed by an ace by Horst, gave the opening set to the home team.
Â
Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the second frame thanks to back-to-back kills from
Jacob Faust and a Kean error.
Reuben Kemrer's lone kill of the night was a nice one that gave the Chargers an 18-14 lead later in the set, and though Kean cut the deficit to 22-19 late in the set, Lancaster Bible won the final three points of the set, and took the second frame from the Cougars.
Â
The final set belonged to the Chargers, as two long scoring runs highlighted the frame. Lancaster Bible won 10 of 12 points early in the set, and then eight straight later in the set for a 22-6 lead, as a block assist from
Zeke Hallman and
Benjamin Herb capped the run. Hallman ended the match a few points later, as Lancaster Bible won, 25-9.
