The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night, as first-place Penn St. Harrisburg defeated the Chargers, 91-65 at Horst Athletic Center. The loss drops the Chargers to 9-10 overall and 7-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference place, while the Nittany Lions put a grip on first place in the NEAC South Division, and are now 13-6 overall and 9-1 in NEAC play.
Â
How it Happened: The teams traded baskets in the early minutes of the opening half, as
Kobe Devine's jumper 5:01 into the contest gave the Chargers a 10-7 advantage. Lancaster Bible was led all half by
Jordan Shewbridge, and his 3-pointer with 13:26 remaining in the first half gave the Chargers a 13-11 lead.
Â
The Chargers wouldn't score for almost five minutes following Shewbridge's basket, and in the meantime, Penn St. Harrisburg used a 14-0 run to build a 25-13 advantage. Another 3-pointer from Shewebridge with 8:40 remaining cut Lancaster Bible's deficit to seven at 25-18, but Penn St. Harrisburg restored its 12-point advantage a minute later with a triple from Chris Haynes.
Â
William Afoakwah provided offense when Shewbridge didn't in the first half, and his tremendous move to the basket and layup trimmed Lancaster Bible's deficit to six, 37-31 with 1:01 to play, but again the Nittany Lions answered, and Dylan Daniels' bucket 10 seconds later gave the Nittany Lions an eight-point halftime lead. Shewbridge kept the Chargers in the game for much of the opening 20 minutes, and finished with 19 points after 20 minutes of play.
Â
Lancaster Bible again cut its deficit to six at 40-34 on a 3-pointer from Shewbridge, but the Chargers would not get any closer, as Penn St. Harrisburg quickly pulled away in the beginning stages of the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Pedro Rodriguez increased the Nittany Lions' lead to 51-38 at the 14:38 mark, and Nate Curry made it 53-38 six minutes into the half for Penn St. Harrisburg.
Â
The lead kept growing for Penn St. Harrisburg, and two free throws by Chris Haynes with 5:01 to play made it 83-53 in favor of the Nittany Lions. Lancaster Bible got late baskets from
Adam Stoltzfus and
Kobe Devine, but couldn't muster enough for a big comeback, as the Nittany Lions swept the season series from the Chargers.
