Saturday marked the first game of the season for each team, as the Greyhounds improved to 1-0, while the Chargers dropped to 0-1.
Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the game on a 4-0 run, as
Lizzy Tilton knocked down back-to-back jumpers. Moravian answered with a 6-0 run as freshman Sam Osorio had four points, but Lancaster Bible's
Jenna Dombach's tied the game at 6-6 with her first collegiate bucket. The offenses stalled for each team in the final five minutes, and the Greyhounds led 9-7 after 10 minutes of play.
Â
Moravian opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run, but a 3-pointer from Lancaster Bible's
Adalyn Steiner cut the deficit to 17-12 with 6:10 to play in the half. Tilton cut the Chargers' deficit to three a minute later, but the Greyhounds answered with a 6-0 run on two straight 3-pointers from Sarah Donati, and led 27-21 at the break.
Â
Moravian dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Chargers, 25-11, and used an 11-5 run over the final four minutes to lead 52-32 after 30 minutes of play. Lancaster Bible trimmed its deficit to 14 early in the fourth quarter, but Chargers offense went cold over the final six minutes, and the Greyhounds earned the 20-point win.
Â
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 34.8 percent (16-of-46) from the field, and just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from 3-point range…Moravian shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the floor, and 40 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arc…Tilton had 23 points and eight boards to lead all scorers, while
Jenna Dombach had 10 points, three assists, and two blocks in her first collegiate game…
Adalyn Steiner had nine points on three 3-pointers, while
Jordyn Beers had two points and 12 rebounds…Sam Osorio had 14 points and 13 boards to lead the Greyhounds.
Â
The Coach Says: "I think we had a lot of opportunities to quit today, and we didn't," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Joy Tharrington said. "We are trying to set a standard of playing hard for 40 minutes, and I think we did that. Losing isn't fun, but giving good effort is, and we did that today."
Â
On what the team needs to work on going forward: "We had too many turnovers, and need better offensive possessions," Tharrington said. "Our offensive rebounding wasn't great, and our transition defense needs to improve. It's hard to replicate 5-on-5 play with seven players in practice, but we still need to be better on each end of the floor."
