How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season defeating the University of Valley Forge by a score of 81-45 on Wednesday, November 17.

The Chargers fell in an early 5-0 hole before Jenna Dombach drilled a 3-pointer to get the offense rolling. LBC used back-to-back 3-pointers by Mikayla Via and Emma Drouillard, to extend their lead to 15-8 late in the first quarter. After a defensive stop, Dombach added a baseline layup pushing the Chargers lead to nine. After four quick points by the Patriots, The Chargers answered back with another three by Drouillard, giving LBC a 20-12 lead after one.

LBC kept the offense rolling to start the second. Alaysha Iwais would get things started for the Chargers with a quick layup in transition. Dombach followed that up by connecting on another 3-pointer giving the Chargers a 10-point lead. Layups by Grace Martin and Lizzy Tilton pushed the Chargers lead to 37-20 late in the first half. The stifling defense from LBC had the Patriots offense at a standstill, holding them to 24 first half points and a shooting percentage of 25.7%. The Patriots ended the half on a 4-0 run, but the Chargers held a 42-24 advantage heading into the break.

In the second half, the Chargers would continue to use their defense to create offense, with Tilton swiping a pass and find Jade Eshelman in transition for the easy layup. Two possessions later, Iwais would come up with a steal of her own again finding Eshelman in transition where she would draw a foul. Eshelman swished a pair of free throws putting LBC ahead by 23 points. Later in the quarter Iwais connected on a deep 3-pointer stretching the lead to 26 points. Late in the quarter, Valley Forge used some full court pressure to slow LBC's offensive attack, allowing the Patriots to cut the deficit back down to 20. LBC's Kenzie Baughman would make two quality passes in transition resulting in four points, giving LBC a 58-35 lead heading into the final quarter.

Eshelman continued the physical tone, driving to the basket for a layup. Baughman knocked down a deep jump shot to put the Chargers ahead by 27. Adalyn Steiner hustled to gather up a loose ball, starting a fast break that resulted in an easy layup for Dombach. With the big lead, the Chargers went deeper into their bench, but kept the defensive pressure high. Faith Hammond capitalized on the opportunity, scoring two transition layups. In full control of the game, LBC would cruise to a 81-45 victory

Coaching Points
"This win feels good not because we won, but because of the way we won," said head coach Joy Tharrington. "It was a team effort and I felt for the first time it was more intentional towards LBC's style of play in comparison to our first two games. Defensively we set the tone early with our Intensity and communication which was a point of emphasis going into this game. Unfortunately, we gave up 23 offensive rebounds which continues to be an area for improvement, I am most proud of our effort through four quarters and our togetherness."
