How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team used a 30-point fourth quarter to take down Bryn Athyn 64-42 on Saturday, December 18
Â
The Chargers (5-5 Overall, 2-0 United East) got off to a slow start, falling in an early 8-2 hole.
Jade Eshelman scored the teams opening five points, connecting on a pair of layups to cut the deficit down to three with 6:05 remaining in the opening quarter. The Lions (2-7 Overall, 1-4 CSAC) would stifle the Chargers for most of the quarter.

Â
Trailing, 13-7 in the second quarter,
Sydney Heller would connect from beyond the arc to start the scoring in the quarter. Later in the quarter,
Alaysha Iwais slashed to the basket for her first points of the game. Tilton then connected on a 3-pointer to cut the Lions' lead down to five.
Faith Hammond knocked a 3-pointer off a pass from Heller. Heller then converted a layup, making the score 22-19. Tilton added a layup before the end of the quarter, but the Lions held a 25-21 lead at the break.
Â
Adalyn Steiner started the scoring in the second half, converting a layup on the team's opening possession of the half. Steiner then connected on a jumper, tying the game at 25. The teams began trading the lead back-and-forth, with a Heller transition layup putting LBC ahead 29-28. After the Lions retook a one-point lead,
Emma Drouillard swished a 3-pointer to give LBC the lead. Eshelman closed the
quarter by hitting a layup to put LBC ahead 34-31 heading to the final quarter.
Â
LBC continued the momentum they captured in the third quarter to stretch the lead to seven points when Drouillard knocked down a jumper with 8:39 remaining in the game. The Chargers pushed their lead to 12 points when

Coaching Points
"This afternoon's game felt much like a conference game in late January where both teams are fatigued, but understand what is on the line," said head coach
Joy Tharrington. "We overcame a poor first half and went into another gear in the second led by our senior captain,
Lizzy Tilton. Our effort on the boards was crucial in this game and will be for our future success, so I was proud to see a strong second half response in that area. This was a much needed, gritty win for our team especially in the absence of
Jenna Dombach."
Who's Next
The women's basketball team will pause for winter break. After the break, LBC will take on NCAA Division I opponent Maryland Eastern Shore on January 3 at 6:00 p.m. This will be the first time the women's basketball team will challenge a Division I opponent.
