How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team fell in a tough nonconference matchup with Salisbury, losing by a score of 68-55 on Wednesday, January 5.
The Chargers (5-6 Overall, 2-0 United East) showed no rust after an 18-day layoff, with
Jenna Dombach swishing a 3-pointer on the teams first possession. On the next trip down the floor,
Emma Drouillard drained a 3-pointer of her own putting LBC ahead 6-0. Later in the quarter, Dombach slashed to the basket for a layup, putting the Chargers ahead 8-2. Salisbury (11-2 Overall, 0-0 C2C) settled in after a bumpy start to close back within three points with 3:15 remaining in the quarter. After
Tenia Brown scored a layup to put the Chargers up by five points, the Sea Gulls went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game. In the closing seconds of the quarter,
Mikayla Via swished a 3-pointer to tie the game at 18 points apiece. Salisbury converted a layup at the buzzer to hold a 20-18 lead going into the second quarter.
The Sea Gulls capitalized on the momentum from the buzzer beater to close the opening quarter, starting the second quarter on a 6-0 run.
Lizzy Tilton and Drouillard each finished layups, but the Chargers trailed by 10-points midway through the quarter. LBC struggled to cut into the deficit and trailed 40-28 heading into the half.
Drouillard registered the first points of the second half, hitting a jump shot off a nice pass from
Alaysha Iwais. Iwais led the team with six assists. Iwais and Drouillard each connected on a 3-pointer, but the Sea Gulls constantly had an answer keeping a 10-point lead.
Sydney Heller closed the quarter by swiping a steal and sprinting out in transition for a layup to make the score 52-44. In the final quarter, the Chargers continued to battle with a
Jade Eshelman jump shot closing LBC back within six points. Salisbury halted any rally attempt, scoring 10 straight points to retake a 16-point advantage. The Sea Gulls maintained the double-digit advantage, winning 68-55.

Coaching Points
"Our non-conference schedule was intended to test and prepare us and I believe our game tonight was a good final opportunity to do just that.," said head coach
Joy Tharrington. "I told our team the two areas we needed to focus on was our energy and physicality in order to compete with a team the caliber of Salisbury, and I thought our team took the challenge head on. Though we did not get the result, there were a lot of positives we can build on heading into conference play this Saturday."
Who's Next
The women's basketball will return to United East play when they host Penn College on Saturday, January 8 at 1:00 p.m.
