The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team won its fifth straight match on Saturday, as the Chargers swept Cairn, 3-0 at Horst Athletic Center. The No. 14 Chargers improved to 7-3 this season with a 26-24, 25-8, 25-17 victory, while Highlanders dropped to 0-1.
Â
How it Happened: The teams went point-for-point in the opening set, as neither team could create much separation. The Chargers took a 13-10 lead midway through the set after two straight Cairn errors, but the Highlanders won the next three points, as the Chargers helped with two errors. A kill from
Kyran Flahive and a block from
Caleb Roberts gave Lancaster Bible a slim lead at 15-13, but the Highlanders answered right back and took a 19-17 lead after winning six of eight points.
Â
Rueben Kemrer answered with a kill for the Chargers, and an ace by Roberts knotted the match at 19-19. Cairn took a 21-19 lead after that, but kills from
Hunter Davis and a block assist by
Kole Horst and Roberts earned the Chargers a set point at 24-23. Cairn fought off one set point thanks to a kill from Shea Scott, but a kill from Horst, and then a block from Horst gave the set to Lancaster Bible, 26-24.
Â
Lancaster Bible was able to create separation quickly in the second set, as Lancaster Bible won eight of nine points early in the frame for an 11-4 lead. After exchanging points, Lancaster Bible used a 9-0 run to put a strangle hold on the set, as Kemrer's serving keyed the run, as he had two aces, and Flahive added three kills.
Elijah Herb capped the run to make it 23-7, and another kill from Flahive gave the Chargers a 25-8 victory in the second set.
Â
The beginning of the third set looked like the first, but Lancaster Bible won five straight points midway through the frame for an 18-12 lead. A block assist by Davis and Flahive finished off the run, and a blast from Flahive gave the Chargers the set and match a few points later.
