Balanced Attack Helps Chargers to First Win

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Wednesday, as the Chargers won in convincing fashion over Wilson, 18-5, at Donald H. Funk Field. The victory propels the Chargers to 1-2 this season, while the Phoenix dropped to 0-2.
 
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible controlled play from the opening draw and after several shot attempts, netted a goal from Kayla Steiner 2:19 into the contest. After Camryn Horst's first goal of the year less than two minutes later, Steiner scored back-to-back goals 1:30 apart, and the Chargers led, 4-0 seven minutes into the game.
 
Katelynn Perrotta scored her first goal of the game with 18:51 to play in the opening half, and Steiner and Kendal Ream scored 15 seconds apart three minutes later to increase the Charges' lead to 7-0. Two more goals from Steiner followed, and Perrotta's second of the day gave Lancaster Bible a 10-0 lead with 6:05 remaining in the half. Paige Reynolds got Wilson on the board with 2:45 left in the opening frame, but Kaitlyn Myers restored Lancaster Bible's 10-goal lead just before halftime, and the Chargers led, 11-1 at the break.
 
Lancaster Bible scored the first three goals of the second half, as Horst completed her hat trick, and Steiner scored her seventh of the day. After two Wilson goals, Lancaster Bible sophomore Kym Kouterick scored the first goal of her collegiate career to make it 15-3 in favor of the Chargers, and Ream, Myers, and Horst all scored down the stretch for the Chargers, as they earned their first win of the season.
 
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot Wilson, 36-14, including 30-11 in shots on goal…The Chargers held a 28-17 edge in ground balls, and a 17-8 advantage in draw controls…Steiner finished with seven goals, and was 4-of-5 on free-position shots…Ream had two goals and four assists, and also added team-high nine draw controls…Perrotta added two goals and an assist, and picked up a team-best five ground balls…Horst finished with four goals and an assist, while Kate Duddy added her first collegiate assist…Goalie Alexis Garrett had six saves and earned her first collegiate victory between the pipes…Lauren Rettew and Michaela Singer each had two goals to lead the Phoenix.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 7-0 all-time against Wilson…This was the first matchup between the two teams since April 5, 2014 when the Chargers beat the Phoenix, 15-5…The 18 goals scored are the most for Lancaster Bible since April 12, 2019 when the Chargers defeated Hilbert, 18-4…The 18 goals are also tied for the fifth-most in program history…Lancaster Bible's nine caused turnovers are a season-high, as are the 17 draw controls.
