Wolverines Bite Chargers in Season Opener

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team opened its 2021 season with a loss on Saturday afternoon, as the Chargers fell to Wesley, 19-5 at Donald H. Funk Field.
 
How it Happened: Wesley opened the scoring 1:33 into the contest, but Lancaster Bible freshman Katelynn Perrotta knotted the game two minutes later with her first collegiate goal. The Wolverines took the game over from that point however, as the visitors scored the next eight goals and built a 9-1 lead with just under 11 minutes to play in the opening half.
 
Perrotta completed her hat trick with 4:11 in the first, as she cut the Chargers' deficit to 10-3. Wesley scored with 44 seconds left in the half, and took an 11-3 lead into the break.
 
Lancaster Bible's defense was better in the second half, though Wesley scored the first four goals of the frame, and led 15-3 after Kassie Dieter's third goal of the game. Lancaster Bible senior Kaitlyn Myers scored her first goal of the season with 15:31 remaining, and Perrotta scored again six minutes later to make it a 16-5 game. Wesley netted the final three goals of the contest in the last five minutes, and won, 19-5.
 
By the Numbers: Wesley held a 36-14 advantage in shots, including a 26-10 edge in shots on goal…The Wolverines led in ground balls, 19-16, and in draw controls, 16-10…Perrotta led the Chargers with four goals and six shots, while Kendal Ream had two assists…Kara Spiezio and Kym Kouterick had three ground balls a piece…Margaret Johnson led the Wolverines with five goals.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 2-8 all-time against Wesley…The Wolverines beat the Chargers, 15-0 last season in Dover, Del…This was Lancaster Bible's first game since March 4, 2020…Lancaster Bible was 0-3 at home last season.
