The Lancaster Bible College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Penn St. Berks for the first time in program history on Friday, as the Chargers won game one, 8-0 behind another terrific performance from senior pitcher
Trevor High, and then took game two, 8-4 in Reading, Pa. The victories send Lancaster Bible to 4-0 for the first time in 41 years, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 0-4.Â

Game 1
Lancaster Bible 8, Penn St. Berks 0
How it Happened: For the second straight doubleheader opener, Lancaster Bible senior
Trevor High was fantastic on the hill, as he shut down the Penn St. Berks offense for seven innings.
Jaden Pinkney got the Lancaster Bible offense started in the top of the first, as he doubled home
Kaden Hunt who had reached on a fielder's choice following a leadoff hit from
Brian Coburn.

Lancaster Bible scored twice more in the third inning, as Coburn walked with one out, and then scored on a two-out triple from
Josh Saufley. Pinkney followed with a walk, and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Jake Hahn struck out as the next batter, but the pitch went to the backstop, and he reached safely at first, and Saufley scored to make it 3-0.

The Chargers tacked on two more in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Hunt that scored
Ethan Varricchione and Coburn. After scoring again in the sixth, Varricchione hit an RBI single in the seventh, and
Zach Clemens added an RBI hit as well in the top half of the seventh. High capped his second straight complete-game shutout by getting the Nittany Lions in order in the bottom half of the inning, and the Chargers had their first road win of the season.

Inside the Box Score: High went the distance again, and scattered six hits over seven innings…He struck out six batters, and did not allow a walk, as his earned run average is a cool 0.00 through 14 innings this season…Varricchione finished game one, 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Pinkney was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored…Hunt finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Coburn was 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored…Six different batters had one hit for the Nittany Lions.

News & Notes: Through two starts, High is 2-0 and has struck out nine hitters and walked just one in 14 innings…He is now 6-7 in his career, and his final strike out on Friday was the 75
th of his career.

Game 2
Lancaster Bible 8, Penn St. Berks 4
How it Happened: Penn St. Berks opened the scoring in game two with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Chargers answered in the top half of the second, as
Jacob Stong hit a sacrifice fly to score Hahn. The Nittany Lions scored again in the bottom half of the inning to restore their one-run lead, and the game stayed at 2-1 through the fourth frame.

Pinkney singled in the top of the fifth, and moved to second on a wild pitch, and after the second out of the inning, moved to third on a wild pitch.
Blake Greenly hit a two-out single towards third to tie the game at 2-2, and then moved to second on a single by Varricchione who followed. Stong was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and everyone moved up a base on yet another wild pitch that gave the Chargers a 3-2 lead.
Adam Naylor drew a walk to load the bases again, and Coburn singled through the left side to give Lancaster Bible a 4-2 lead, as Varricchione scored.

Lancaster Bible's two-out magic was in full effect again in the sixth inning, as Hahn singled, and Greenly was hit by a pitch with two outs. Varricchione followed with a triple, and the Chargers extended their lead to 6-2.

Penn St. Berks got two runs back in the seventh inning, but Lancaster Bible got them right back in the eighth, as Stong ripped an RBI single that scored Greenly, and Stong scored during Naylor's at-bat on a wild pitch.
Josh Noll and Greenly combined to pitch the eighth and ninth innings, and they struck out three batters and allowed just one hit, as the Chargers swept the doubleheader.

Inside the Box Score: Coburn started game two for the Chargers and went six innings, and allowed just one earned run, while striking out four…Varricchione was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in game two, Hahn was 2-for-6 with two runs scored…Saufley was 2-for-5 with a walk, and Stong was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored…Bryce Stout was 4-for-5 for the Nittany Lions.

Frank DiFilippo said. "This is just a great group of guys and today's wins, like last weekend's, were full team victories. For us to continue to be successful, it will take all 27 of the guys, and they have really bought into that mentality."
