Back-to-Back NEAC Champions!

The Lancaster Bible College men's tennis team won its second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, as the top-seeded Chargers defeated Penn St. Harrisburg, 6-3 in Middletown, Pa. Lancaster Bible is now 10-1 overall and will host the NEAC-NAC Crossover Match next weekend at Hempfield Rec Center.

Neither the NEAC or NAC has enough teams for an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, so the two conferences share the bid, with the winner of each conference playing for the bid to the tournament. The NAC Tournament Final is on Sunday as Thomas (Maine) takes on Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 2 p.m.

Doubles: Lancaster Bible won two of the three doubles matches on Saturday, as the No. 2 team of Malachi Bomgardner and AJ Kwiatkowski earned a huge, 8-6 victory over Alex Kurtz and Alex Rohn. The No. 3 team of Keven Vallette and Micah Weaver picked up an 8-2 victory over Ryan McGlynn and Mohammed Azlmat, while the No. 1 team of Devon Clemmer and Tyler Norris battled, but lost, to Sachin Venkatesh and Nick Rohn, 8-5.

Singles: Bomgardner picked up another huge win in singles play, as he won his No. 4 singles match over Alex Rohn, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 11-9. Vallette sealed the match for the Chargers at No. 5 singles, as he defeated McGlynn 6-2, 7-6 (3). Weaver was solid at No. 3 singles, as he cruised, 6-4, 6-2.

Equally impressive was Kwiatkowski at No. 6 singles, as he defeated Casey Detwiler, 6-1, 6-3. Norris fought back from a set down in his No. 2 singles match, but dropped the third set, as he lost, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Clemmer played tough at No. 1 singles as well, but lost to Venkatesh, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

The Coach Says: "I am grateful for the consistency of this group," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Rod Baughman said. "This was a really good Penn St. Harrisburg team that came in on a roll. Tyler and Keven led our team well today, and we are excited about the opportunity to play next week and represent both Lancaster Bible and the NEAC."
