How It HappenedÂ
The Women's Volleyball rolled past Gwynedd Mercy winning in straight sets on September 15.
The Chargers got off to a slow start, falling in an early 4-2 hole. Sheyenne King and Chloe King slammed back-to-back kills to spark LBC's offense, going on a 5-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. That run settled the Chargers down and allowed the team to slowly pull away from the Griffins. Leading 15-11, Chloe King would fire two more kills, sparking a 4-0 run. King would crush one last kill, securing the first set for the Chargers, 25-13.
LBC used the momentum from the first set, getting off to a much better start in the second set. Powered by a pair of kills from Sheyenne King, the Chargers would jump out to a 9-3 advantage. Later in the set, Leah Helman fired several serves the Griffins had a hard time passing, allowing LBC to go on a 5-0 run taking a 15-7 lead. The Red & Black had seized momentum rattling off seven straight points thanks in part to Morgan Fenstermacher. Fenstermacher had a team high 11 kills. The Chargers would cruise to a 25-10 victory in the second set.
Head Coach Julie Brubaker turned to her bench in the third set, allowing her bench players to pick up some key experience. Amanda Hertzog and Maelynne Patey would each take advantage of the opportunity. Rebekah Godshall and Bethany Pettis helped anchor the defense and the Chargers would again secure the set 25-20, winning the match in straight sets.
