How It HappenedÂ
The Lancaster Bible Men's Soccer team battled Penn College to a 1-1 draw in the team's United East Conference opener on Saturday, September 18.
The Chargers put pressure on Penn College constantly in the first 45 minutes taking nine shots. Clark Shreiner, Owen Nell, Ross Venman and Devyn Kintzer all launched shots on goal, but each attempt was turned away by the Wildcats' Goalkeeper, keeping the game scoreless heading into the half.
In the second half, both teams continued to press the attack creating scoring chances. Penn College would break through, scoring in the 80th minute when Colton Wartman fired a shot from 20 yards out into the top right corner. With under 10 minutes remaining, Lancaster Bible scrambled to find an equalizer. In the 85th minute, Owen Yoder found an open Chad Tolson racing through the Wildcats defense and Tolson smashed a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one.Â
The game remained tied at one at the end of regulation, so for the first time this season, the Chargers went to overtime. Early in the first overtime, Tolson and Matthew Eufemia each took a shot, but neither was on frame. In the second overtime period, LBC created three scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net. The game finished in a 1-1 tie.Â
