How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team won a thrilling double-overtime battle with Penn St. Berks, defeating the Lions by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, September 22.
The game could not have started any better for the Chargers as 40 seconds into the game
Kedric Yoder found space down the left sideline. He played the ball perfectly across, finding the feet of
Chad Tolson. Tolson ripped a shot into the back of the net to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. LBC controlled the rest of the half, creating 10 more scoring chances in the half but they could not extend the advantage.
After some halftime adjustments, Penn St. Berks started to regain possession. In the 49
th minute, the Lions strung together a series of passes that resulted in a goal for Shane Gleason tying the game at one. The Chargers would regroup and look to regain the lead, creating six shots, but could not find the back of the net. The game remained tied at one at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Neither team could create much offense in the first overtime and in the second overtime Lancaster Bible looked to win the game. In the 101
st minute,
Michael Eufemia collected a loose ball near midfield and raced toward the goal. When the defense rotated over toward
Michael Eufemia, he found his brother
Matthew Eufemia in the box. The ball was slightly deflected by the Berks defender, but
Matthew Eufemia managed to gather it in, turned and fired the game-winning goal into the back of the net, securing the 2-1 victory.
