How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer game team fell in a shootout to defending United East Champions Penn State Berks by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday, September 22.
Both offenses erupted in the first half, scoring a combined six goals in the half. Penn State Berks would strike first, with Sara Hathaway scoring in the eighth minute. Hathaway would go to score three goals in the game. Four minutes later, the Chargers had an answer when
Kendal Ream found some space down the right side of the field. Ream crossed the ball into the box, finding an open
Kara Huber. Huber smoothly gathered in the pass and fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one. After another Penn State Berks goal, the Chargers looked to answer back. After a corner kick, the loose ball rolled out of the box to
Avery Bieber who served the ball back into the box.
Kendal Ream worked to get the ball, shooting it past the Lions goalkeeper to tie the game at two. Penn State Berks answered the goal a minute later to regain the lead. A minute later,
Adeline Moore got a free kick opportunity from outside the 18-yard box. Moore fired a shot toward the goal that took an odd bounce, rolling into the back of the net to tie the game at three. The offenses would then cool off, with the game going into the half tied at three.
Penn State Berks continued to push the pace in the second half, scoring in the 56
th minute to take a 4-3 lead. The Lions would tack one more goal to take control of the game. The Chargers would fire five shots in the second half, but could not find another goal, eventually falling 5-3.
