Chargers Drop Highly Contested Battle With LVC

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible Women's Volleyball fell in a back-and-forth nonconference matchup with Lebanon Valley College by a score of 3-1 on Friday, September 24.

The opening set saw the teams trade the lead through the first six points before the Chargers went on the first scoring run of the game using a Morgan Fenstermacher kill to go on a 5-0 run. The Dutchman would answer right back pulling within a point before the teams began swapping kills. Cassidy King powered the Chargers offense, crushing two of her game high 15 kills to help LBC hold a 16-14 advantage. Lebanon Valley would respond with two 4-0 runs, rallying to take the set 25-21. 

The Chargers once again got off to a strong start in the second set, using two kills by Chloe King to build a 9-5 lead. Lebanon began their comeback a lot sooner in this set, going on a 5-1 run capitalizing on a pair of Charger attack errors to take a 16-14 lead. The Chargers had an answer behind three quality services from Leah Helman, the team pushed back recapturing a 19-18 lead. LVC made one last push, running off four straight points and holding on for the 25-23 set victory.

Lancaster Bible had their backs against the wall, going into the third set, needing to win to stay in the match. This time they built an early advantage and looked to keep it capitalizing on several LVC hitting errors to take a 12-7 lead. Later in the set, Maelynne Patey hammered down two kills, sparking a 7-1 run which put the Red & Black ahead 20-13. The Dutchman would make a final push, trying to win the set put a service ace from Leah Helman helped the Chargers secure the third set. 

In the fourth set, the teams continued to exchange points, with the set being tied at 14. The Dutchman used a 7-1 run to take a commanding six point lead late in the set. Lancaster Bible made one final push using a kill from Sheyenne King and service ace from Kate Stoltzfus to pull back within two points. The team could no closer, eventually falling 25-22. 

Inside The Numbers
- Cassidy King led the Chargers offense, slamming down 15 kills. King achieved a double-double adding 12 digs
- Chloe King and Maelynne Patey each added five kills
- Faith Helman dispersed 30 assists
- Leah Helman dug out 15 balls a team high
- Suzanna Rouse chipped in 14 digs from the Libero position
- The Dutchmen were led by Mikiah Sangrey who had 14 kills
- Lebanon Valley held a 44-38 advantage in kills, but the Chargers won the dig battle, 67-62

Who's Next
The Women's Volleyball team will return home to face Clarks Summit University on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
