How It HappenedÂ
The Lancaster Bible Women's Soccer team got their first win of the season, rallying to knock off Cairn by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday September 7.Â
The game did not get off to the start Lancaster Bible drew up, as the Chargers committed a foul in their defensive box giving the Highlanders a penalty kick. For Cairn, Sarah Jackson capitalized on the opportunity and scored to put Cairn ahead 1-0. Lancaster Bible responded immediately putting pressure on Cairn, with Megan Rogers and Sam Koons launching shots on goal that drew corner kicks. In the 13th minute, Kendal Ream found space on a counterattack after a corner kick. Ream found an open Kara Huber and Huber capitalized, scoring her first goal of the season. With the score leveled at one, both teams looked to create scoring chances. Adeline Moore, Jade Weir and Mikayla Beers fired shots in the last two minutes in the half, but they could not find the back of the net, sending the game into the half tied at one.Â
In the second half, the Chargers looked to seize momentum but the team had two early scoring chances stopped because of offside calls. Lancaster Bible finally found the back of the net when Marissa Allebach found an open Weir for a goal. This was Weir's first career goal. Having taken the lead, the Chargers defense locked down, stifling the Highlanders offensive attack. Cairn was held to one shot over the final 30 minutes as the Chargers cruised to the 1-0 victory.Â
