How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team bounced back, defeating Gallaudet University by a score of 96-67 on Saturday, January 22.
Â
The Chargers (9-6 Overall, 5-1 United East) got on the board early when
Grant Sareyka drained a 3-pointer on the team's first offensive possession. Gallaudet (1-13 Overall, 1-6 United East) answered back, grabbing an early 7-3 lead. The Chargers responded with
Adam Stoltzfus converting a layup and
Jordan Shewbridge knocking down a 3-pointer to retake an 8-7 lead. The teams would trade the lead back-and-forth with a Stoltzfus layup tying the game at 18. Sareyka knocked down another 3-pointer and Shewbridge converted a layup to put LBC ahead 23-18. Gallaudet battled back tying the game at 29. Head Coach
Jon Mack called a timeout to regroup his team and out of the timeout the Chargers picked up their defensive intensity.
Ethan Beachy hit a layup and then immediately came away with a steal finding Shewbridge for a 3-pointer. Shewbridge then swiped a steal finding
Seth Beers for a transition layup. Beers then came away with a steal finding Sareyka for a layup putting LBC ahead 38-29 and forcing a Bison timeout. The Chargers kept rolling with
Maureon Tisdale-Couch scoring four straight points to go ahead by 16 points. LBC stretched the lead to 20 points, taking a 55-35 advantage into the half.
Â
LBC continued rolling in the second half, with Shewbridge scoring the first five points of the half. Sareyka swished another 3-pointer, putting the Chargers ahead 65-37. LBC continued to push the advantage, leading by 37 points when Shewbridge hit another 3-pointer. Shewbridge scored 31 points, reaching the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season. With the large advantage, LBC turned to their bench to secure the victory.

Coaching Points
"I thought we struggled getting stops early due to Rory Lewis catching fire from the perimeter and our turnovers," said head coach
Jon Mack. "After a refocused timeout, I thought our guys responded to the challenge defensively and we began turning our defense into offense which led to a 20-point separation in the first half. I continue to be proud of our unselfishness as we totaled 27 assists on 38 made field goals. Â I thought
Maureon Tisdale-Couch,
Ethan Beachy, and
Caleb Carpenter did an excellent job impacting the game and providing a much-needed spark off the bench today."
Â
Who's Next
The men's basketball team will begin a four-game road trip, with the Chargers traveling to Penn St. Abington on Tuesday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m.
