Men's Volleyball Defeats Wilkes, Medaille At Misericordia Tournament

How It Happened

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team continued to roll, defeating Wilkes University in straight sets to open play on Saturday, January 22.

The Chargers (5-0 Overall) traded points with Wilkes early in the first set, with the score being tied at three. LBC started to find their rhythm behind a kill and service ace from Dawson Forney, sending the Chargers on a 5-0 run to take control of the first set. Wilkes (0-3 Overall, 0-1 MAC) responded, scoring the next three points to close back within three. Later in the set, Forney slammed down another kill, starting a 5-0 run that put the Chargers ahead 18-10. LBC won four of the final five points with DJ Omogrosso delivering a service ace to secure the 25-14 set victory.

Wilkes got off to a better start in second set, using a 4-0 run to grab a 7-4 advantage. Kevin Koch started the Chargers rally by smashing a kill. Forney added a kill and the Chargers capitalized on a pair of errors by the Colonels to tie the game at nine. Later in the set, Elijah Herb crushed a kill sparking an 8-0 run that put the Chargers ahead 22-13. In full control of the set, LBC cruised to a 25-16 set victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

LBC looked to close out the match in the third set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. Hunter Davis and Herb each recorded kills as the Chargers went on a 6-1 run grabbing a 13-6 lead. Wilkes battled back, closing within a single point later in the set, but they could not surge back in front. Koch punctuated the victory with one last kill, giving LBC the straight-set victory.

Inside the Numbers

- Dawson Forney led the Chargers offense with 12 kills
- Elijah Herb added 11 kills
- Tanner Shertzer handed out 28 assists and he also led the team in digs with five
- Wilkes was led by Zach Shay who had four kills
- The Chargers' offense combined to hit .254, smashing 33 kills
- LBC's defense held the Colonels to a -.017 hitting percentage

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball closed the Misericordia Tournament by defeating Medaille College by a score of 3-1 on Saturday, January 22.

The Chargers (6-0 Overall) grabbed early momentum in the first set, going on a 6-0 run powered by kills from Dawson Forney, DJ Omogrosso and Elijah Herb, taking a 9-4 lead. The Mavericks chipped away at the deficit, eventually tying the set at 14. Kevin Koch halted the run and started a 3-0 surge for the Chargers. LBC closed out the set, winning eight of the final nine points, securing the 25-16 first set victory.

LBC opened the second set on a roll, starting the set on a 11-1 run and immediately taking control of the set. Omogrosso showed off his serving ability, picking up a pair of service aces. Medaille tried to climb back into contention, going on an 4-0 run to make the score 14-9. LBC prevented the Mavericks from getting any closer, with Forney securing the set with a thunderous kill.

Medaille fought off a pair of match points to rally back and win the third set. The Chargers looked to close out the victory in the fourth set. LBC started fast with kills from Kevin Koch and Hunter Davis allowing LBC to take a 4-1 lead. Davis and Herb smashed back-to-back kills, allowing the Chargers to pull ahead 11-6. Later in the set, LBC seized full control of the set with an 8-1 run that put LBC ahead by 10 points. The Chargers held on for the 25-17 set win, securing a 3-1 match victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Dawson Forney once again led the Chargers offense recording a double-double
- Elijah Herb smashed 10 kills
- Hunter Davis had a solid outing, recording eight kills and nine digs
- Tanner Shertzer dished 33 assists and added nine digs
- The Mavericks were led by Malachi Jackson who had 13 kills
- LBC held a 42-40 advantage in digs
- The Chargers utilized their block, recording 10 blocks (18 assisted, 1 solo)
