Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Lancaster Bible Climbs Past Mary Baldwin

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team followed up their impressive week of performances with a solid 3-2 win over the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin University. With the non-conference win on Monday evening, the Chargers move to a 10-3-3 record and have not lost since September.

How It Happened: The Fighting Squirrels were the first to strike in Monday evening's contest, placing a shot outside the box that'd find the back of the net giving Mary Baldwin an early 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the game. The goal would wake the Chargers up as they would rattle off two unanswered goals to end the half. Freshman Ben Nolt was the first to find the scoreboard for the Chargers in the 23rd minute off an assist from teammate Matthew Eufemia. The Chargers would go on to put several more shots on goal until a through ball from Kedric Yoder would find the foot of Andrew Cox to place in the right side of the goal; the Chargers would take the lead 2-1 just a minute and a half before halftime.

Opening the second half, senior Clark Shreiner made a run in the box but would be tripped up by a Squirrels defender, leading to a penalty kick that Shreiner would take advantage of, pushing the lead to 3-1. From there, the game would go back and forth with the Chargers placing a few more shots on goal. The Squirrels would make a last ditch effort, scoring in the 82nd minute off a foul in the box, but the Chargers resisted anymore of the attacks and won their tenth game of the season.

By the Numbers:
  • Three different Chargers found the goal tonight: Nolt (5), Cox (6), and Shreiner (9).
  • Yoder and Eufemia would each add an assist.

United East Update: This past Saturday after their win at Penn St. Abington, the Chargers clinched a United East playoff berth and currently sit in second behind St. Mary's (Md.) with a 5-1-1 record.

Up Next: The Chargers will stay on campus for their last regular season United East Conference matchup against the Bison of Gallaudet University on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:30pm. This will mark both Senior Night and the 50-year celebration of Charger men's soccer.
