The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team played their last regular season game of the 2022 season versus Penn St. Altoona on Thursday night. The Chargers also honored the program's five seniors:
Kedric Yoder,
Nathan Muckle,
Tanner Shertzer,
Clark Shreiner, and
Isaac Barrow. They would cap off the night with a convincing 8-0 win, ending the season with a 12-3-3 overall record heading into the United East Playoffs next weekend. The Lions of Penn St. Altoona dropped to 4-9-1 following the loss.
How It Happened: The Lions battled hard, but it'd be all Chargers behind a record-breaking performance from graduate senior
Kedric Yoder and a hat trick from
Devyn Kintzer. Before entering the game Thursday night, Yoder was just two assists shy of tying the program record of 37 career assists, which was held by Randy Witmer who played from 1985-1988.
The Chargers would strike first at the 19-minute mark when Yoder would place a ball towards the middle from the left side of the box that junior
Owen Nell would send past the goalie with his left foot. Just under three minutes later, Yoder would register his record-tying assist to fellow senior
Clark Shreiner at 23:36. The Chargers scored the third goal of the first half in the 26
th minute when sophomore
Devyn Kintzer would find the goal off an assist from none other than
Kedric Yoder. This would be the third assist of the half for Yoder and the assist to break the career record. The Chargers would cap off the strong first half with one final goal, this time a crowd-roaring play featuring assists from both
Cameron Smith and
Kyle Hughes. Smith would find Hughes streaking on the far-right side of the field who would send a beautiful ball into the box for play; Kintzer would be in the center of the box, who would proceed to connect on the volley mid-air and send it right into the goal sending the Chargers into halftime with an impressive 4-0 lead.
Starting where they left off, the Chargers rattled off three goals in a matter of four minutes, starting at the 57
th minute. Freshman Andrew Cox started the first half with a goal of his own off a corner kick that would squeak into the back corner post. Kintzer completed his hat trick on a backwards header that'd hit off the crossbar and in; that goal was off an assist from fellow teammate and junior
Owen Yoder. The freshman connection of Ben Nolt to Hayden Walker capped off the goal streak with one of their own at the 60
th minute. The Chargers would grow the lead to 7-0, and would end the night on a goal from Walker on an assist from Nell, ending the game 8-0 in favor of the Chargers.
From the Coach: "It was great to not only get a win, but the way we played together tonight to honor the seniors and the impact they have made on this program. I can't thank them enough for their dedication to building our culture and the servant-leadership they've shown day in and day out. It was a great night for our program."
