The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team fell to Penn St. Harrisburg 3-0 in the United East Conference semi-finals on Friday night. The Chargers finished their season 12-4-3 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play. Penn St. Harrisburg moved to 10-2-6 overall following the win and advances to the conference championship to battle against host seed St. Mary's (Md.).
How It Happened: The anticipation was high for the semi-final match between Lancaster Bible and Penn St. Harrisburg. Not only because of the rivalry and the magnitude of the match, but much the result of how the match from earlier in the season ended. The Chargers scored three goals in the final five minutes of the game to end the game in a tie.
The Lions came out from the jump sending three shots on goal and two corner kicks in just the first five minutes of the game. Setting the tone early, the Lions found the scoreboard first in the 17
th minute leading to a 1-0 lead. The Lions continued to push the tempo and put pressure on the Chargers defense. Penn St. Harrisburg managed to find the goal one more time before the end of the half in the 39
th minute.
The Chargers forced their hand offensively in the second half including shots on goal by both
Clark Shreiner and
Kedric Yoder which were saved by Harrisburg's goalkeeper Estaban Leon. Penn St. Harrisburg had shots of their own and one Lion shot found the net just before the 59
th minute sending the lead to 3-0.
From there, the ball switched sides of the field several times and despite the best efforts of the Chargers no attack turned up lucky. Time ran out, and Penn St. Harrisburg claimed a 3-0 semi-final win and a shot at the United East Conference championship.
Wrap Up: Despite the disappointing loss for the Chargers, there was much to be proud of this season. They finished with a strong 12-4-3 overall record and third place finish in the United East Conference play featuring a 6-1-1 conference record.
