The Lancaster Bible College men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2022-2023 indoor season with a visit to the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Friday night, December 9. Squaring off against several other teams from across the region, the Chargers performed well all-around, exceeding expectations.

Notable Performances: Mitchell Gray continued his distance dominance with another impressive showing, but this time on the inside track. Gray won the mile event with an astounding time of 4:32.50, which set a new school record and helped him qualify for the NCCAA Nationals in his first meet for the Chargers. Freshman
Jack Dearborn also had himself a great night with several strong showings in the jumping events, including a ninth-place finish in the long jump at 5.90 meters, qualifying him for NCCAA Nationals.

For the women,
Leah Bergey started off with a bang, winning the 60-meter hurdles event and setting both a personal record and school record at 9.03. She also set school records in both the high jump (1.55 meters) as well as the shot put (8.91 meters) which helped her qualify for the NCCAA Nationals in the hurdles and high jump. Senior
Kara Huber competed well in pole vault, finishing in eighth place, which set a new school record and helped her qualify for the NCCAA Nationals as well. Freshman
Janae Bergey set records in both the 60m and 200m with times of 8.37 and 29.22 respectively. To cap the night off, the women's 4x400 team wrapped up the night with a new school record behind performances from
Elizabeth Lieb,
Kendal Ream,
Emma Rohn, and
Kara Huber.

From the Coach: "Overall, I thought it was a good opening meet for us. With many newcomers to our team this year, there was a mixture of excitement and nervousness.  It was good to get our competition season started.  As a coaching staff, we are excited about the potential we see in this group." –
