The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team rebounded from its loss on Tuesday with an 87-76 victory over Cabrini on Thursday night at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are now 4-3 overall, while the Cavaliers drop to 3-6.
How it Happened: The Chargers started on a 7-0 run and didn't look back in the first half. Graduate student
Jordan Shewbridge scored 18 of the first 21 points scored for the Chargers, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Entering the last ten minutes of the first half, Shewbridge found help from
Andrew Zentner,
Isaiah Mitchell,
Jordan Praylow, and
Ethan Beachy. The Chargers concluded the first half on a 9-2 run and led 42-27 after 20 minutes.
It was the
Adam Stoltzfus show to begin the second half, scoring 15 straight points for the Chargers and propelling them to their largest lead of the game at 27 points. From drive and kick passes from the guards to dump downs from the high-low, Stoltzfus and Zentner would be dominant forces in the paint, playing off each other throughout the second half and outscoring the Cavaliers 56-28 off points in the paint. Despite the dominant paint work, the Cavaliers began to chip away at the 27-point lead little by little to make things interesting Thursday night. The Cavaliers broke the double-digit deficit at 2:04 to make it 83-74. It wouldn't be for long though, as Zentner responded by sprinting the length of the floor to send a block off the backboard only to turn around and sprint back on offense and throw down a thundering dunk to put the Chargers up 11 points with 1:17 left.
Behind a season-high 56 points in the paint and 23 assists, the Chargers finished their sixth non-conference game of the 2022-23 season with a convincing 87-76 win.
From the Coach: "I thought we played with high effort and execution on both ends for 32 minutes tonight which resulted in complete control of the game. Although we never relinquished control of the game, the last 8 minutes we stop competing and let the scoreboard dictate our effort and execution.
Overall we did a great job sharing the ball with 23 assists, scoring 56 points in the paint and collecting 16 offensive boards. We still need to do a better job taking care of the ball. It's becoming an Achilles that is preventing us from taking the next step to improving as a team.
We look forward to the break and getting healthy for the spring semester." - Head Coach Jon Mack
