How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team dropped a back-and-forth battle with Messiah University, falling in straight sets on Wednesday, February 23.
The opening set was highly contested, with the two teams tying the score 23 times during the set. The Chargers (11-7 Overall) took control of the set after
Dawson Forney smashed a kill to tie the score at 17. LBC seized momentum, going on a 6-0 run that featured a service ace and a kill from
Kole Horst. Messiah (10-3 Overall) answered back, going on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 24 and send it into a win-by-two situation. The Chargers had the first three opportunities to win the set, but they could not capitalize with a one-point advantage. Messiah then grabbed the advantage and after the Chargers fought off a pair of set point opportunities, the Falcons won the set 33-31.
The Chargers held a one-point lead throughout the early portion of the second set with a kill from Horst putting the Chargers ahead 11-10. Messiah fought back, winning four of the next five points to take a 14-13 lead. The Chargers tried to chip away at the deficit, with
Hunter Davis pulling LBC back within four late in the set. The Falcons won the final two points, taking the set 25-19.
LBC took an early lead in the second set, with a kill by Horst putting the Chargers ahead by a score of 3-2. Messiah launched into a 6-1 run, taking a 12-7 lead midway through the set. The Chargers fought back led by
Elijah Herb, winning five of the next six points to close back within one. The Falcons used a 6-0 run late in the set, pulling out to a five-point lead. Messiah closed out the set, winning the match in straight sets.
