How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team dropped a nonconference matchup with crosstown rival Franklin & Marshall, falling by a score of 18-5 on Thursday, March 24. Â
The Chargers (7-10 Overall, 2-1 United East) took an early lead, scoring in the top of the first inning.
Blake Greenly led off the game by getting hit by a pitch. After he advanced to third,
Tyler Cunningham fired a hard ground ball to the short stop, causing an error and allowing Greenly to score. Franklin & Marshall (7-8 Overall) responded, hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.
LBC cut into the deficit in the top of the second inning. After
Zach McCauley worked a walk,
Kaden Hunt hit a single into right center field, putting runners on first and second base. Greenly then was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, loading the bases.
Jaden Pinkney slammed a single through the left side, scoring McCauley to make the score 3-2. The Diplomats answered back, hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning to take a 7-2 lead.
F&M slowly pulled away from the Chargers, plating a run in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the advantage. The Diplomats exploded in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to take a 15-2 lead. The Chargers struggled to climb back into the game, trailing by 16 going into the ninth inning. LBC started a rally in the ninth inning. Pinkney led off the inning with a single into center field.
Daniel Navarro added a single, putting runners on the corners.
Daniel Yoder lined out to center field, allowing Pinkney to score. Later in the inning,
Adam Naylor crushed a double into the left center gap, driving in a run.
Eric Willey drove in another run with a single that scored Naylor. The Chargers could not keep the rally going, falling 18-5.
