Chargers Blast Three Home Runs in Sweep of Defenders

How it Happened
The Lancaster Bible College softball team capitalized on a pair of home runs to rally back and defeat Clarks Summit by a score of 9-8 in game one on Tuesday, April 26.

The Chargers (12-23 Overall, 9-15 CSAC) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Adalyn Steiner led off the inning by cranking a double into right field. Bryanna Hoover reached on a single to the short stop, putting runners on the corners. Hoover swiped second base, drawing a throw that allowed Steiner to score.
 
The Defenders (3-19 Overall, 1-9 CSAC) took advantage of some rainy conditions, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-1 lead. LBC responded in the bottom of the third inning. Alyssa Hamilton led off the inning by smoking a double off the wall in left field. Hannah Lieb reached on an error, allowing Hamilton to move over third. Phoebe Clemens rocketed a ball at the short stop, allowing two runs to score, making the score 5-3. Clemens stole third and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Steiner. Chloe King blasted her second home run of the season, tying the game at five in the process.
 
LBC retook the lead in the fourth inning. After Lieb reached on a fielder's choice, Clemens singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Steiner pushed a single through the left side, allowing Lieb to score. Clemens swiped third base and then capitalized on a throwing error to take a 7-5 lead.
 
Clarks Summit would not go away, plating three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to surge back in front by a score of 8-7. The Chargers did not panic, answering back in the bottom of the inning. After two quick outs, Lieb legged out a single and stole second base to put herself in scoring position. She then stole third base and took advantage of a throwing error to score, tying the game at eight. Clemens put the Chargers back ahead, blasting a home run over the left field fence to give LBC a 9-8 lead.
 
Hamilton shut down the Defenders' offense in the seventh inning, recording three straight outs to secure the 9-8 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Phoebe Clemens went 2-4, launching her first home run of the season. Clemens totaled three RBIs
- Chloe King blasted her second home run of the season, going 1-2 with an RBI
- Adalyn Steiner went 3-3, smashing two doubles and driving in two RBIs
- Alyssa Hamilton hammered a double to left field
- The Chargers were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping 12 bases

How it Happened
The Chargers (13-23 Overall) took advantage of their momentum victory, rolling to a 9-0 victory in game two.

LBC took the lead in the first inning. Alyssa Hamilton led off the inning a double down the left field line. Hannah Lieb single through the left side and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Phoebe Clemens ripped a double to left field, allowing two runs to score. Later in the inning, Bryanna Hoover hit a hard ground ball, allowing Clemens to score and putting the Chargers up 3-0.

The Chargers tacked on two more runs in the third inning. Adalyn Steiner smashed a double and then Hoover reached base on an error to put runners on second and third. Alyssa Paulson launched a double into center field, plating two runs to give LBC a 5-0 lead.

LBC put the game out of reach in the fourth inning. Hamilton led off the inning with a single into left field and advanced to second on the throw. Lieb blasted a ball through the right side, allowing Hamilton to score. Phoebe Clemens perfectly placed a ball down the right field line, hustling around the bases for a triple. Later in the inning, Hoover launched her first career home run, blasting a ball over the left field fence and giving LBC a 9-0 lead.

Chloe King shut down the Defenders in the fifth inning, recording a strikeout to secure her first career victory and LBC's first shutout of the season.
