Men's Volleyball Falls To UC Santa Cruz, Southern Virginia

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team fell in their first ever matchup with UC Santa Cruz, losing in straight sets on Friday, April 1.

The Chargers (16-9 Overall) got off to a strong start, using a kill by Hunter Davis to take a 3-1 lead. The teams traded points with the set being tied at eight. The Banana Slugs (12-14 Overall) used a 4-1 run to surge ahead and take a 12-9 lead. UC Santa Cruz continued growing their lead, going on a 7-1 run to seize control of the set. The Chargers fought back, using kills from Kole Horst and Elijah Herb to go on a 6-1 run and pull back within three points. LBC could not get any closer, falling 25-20.

UC Santa Cruz got off to a fast start in the second set, jumping out to a 5-2 lead. LBC used kills from Dawson Forney and Caleb Roberts to close back within a point. Later in the set, the Chargers went on a 4-0 run, tying the set at 17 points. The Banana Slugs responded, going on a 6-1 run, regaining control of the set, eventually winning 25-21.

LBC once again fell behind to start the third set, falling in an 8-2 hole. Roberts sparked a rally slamming down a kill that started a 6-1 run, allowing LBC to close back within two points. The teams would trade points with the Banana Slugs slowly pulling away, closing out the match with a 25-20 set victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Hunter Davis led the Chargers attack, recording 10 kills
- Dawson Forney posted nine kills and a team high six digs
- Elijah Herb also recorded nine kills
- Tanner Shertzer distributed 32 assists

How It Happened
The men's volleyball team fell for the third time this season to #9 Southern Virginia, losing in straight sets on Saturday, April 2.

The Chargers (16-10 Overall) traded points early in the first set before Southern Virginia (18-3 Overall) used a 3-0 run to take a 7-4 lead. A kill by Hunter Davis and a service ace from Kole Horst helped the Chargers close back within two points. The Knights answered back, going on a 5-1 run to take a 16-10 lead. The teams continued to trade points with SVU taking a 24-20 lead. The Chargers made one final push with Elijah Herb and Horst hammering kills to pull LBC back within one point. The Knights closed out the set, winning 25-23.

The Knights jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the second set. The Chargers battled back, with Elijah Herb slamming two kills and service ace to pull back within one point. Southern Virginia took control of the set, going on a 7-1 run to take a 14-7 lead. Later in the set, LBC capitalized on a couple of Knights errors to go on a 4-0 run. Southern Virginia halted the run, winning 25-19.

LBC once again fell behind early in the third set, allowing the Knights to take an 11-3 lead. Horst started a rally smashing a kill and sparking a 6-1 run that allowed LBC to close back within four points. The Chargers could not get any closer, falling 25-20.

Inside the Numbers
- Elijah Herb led the way with 13 kills
- Tanner Shertzer dished 24 assists
- Konrad Martin recorded six digs
- Southern Virginia was led by Nahuel Recabarren who posted 10 kills
