Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Shine, Net Four Goals in 2022 Season Debut

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team traveled west to Beaver Falls, Pa. to take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in their first competition of the 2022 campaign. The Chargers did not hold back, netting four goals and three assists. The Chargers move to 1-0 to start the season for the third time in the past four years, and the Golden Tornadoes begin 0-1.

How It Happened: The Chargers and Golden Tornadoes would battle back and forth for the first 45 minutes ending the first half scoreless. It wasn't until 2:45 into the second half that transfer junior Sam Glock put the ball in the back of the net off an assist from veteran teammate Kedric Yoder for the first goal of the season. Kedric Yoder would then follow up Glock's goal with a goal of his own under a minute later.

With a 2-0 lead in the middle of the second half, junior Owen Nell wanted to join the party and created a 3-0 cushion with a goal on an assist from freshman Andrew Cox at the 70-minute mark. Sophomore Matthew Eufemia would put the game away in the 73rd minute on a goal assisted by fellow sophomore teammate Devyn Kintzer.

Not to be overshadowed, the Chargers defense would prove essential in the 4-0 victory, limiting Geneva to a total of eight shots and only two corner kicks. A balanced attack from Coach Ardt's squad would prove to be too much for the Golden Tornadoes, a theme for the men's soccer program which has seen a sweep by an average of three goals in the previous two season openers.

From the Coach: "It was great to see the continued effort that we have been showing all preseason. We adjusted to some of the elements of the game today and it was a great way to start this season's journey." - Head Coach Tommy Ardt

By the Numbers:  The Chargers would hold the shot advantage 13-8 over the Golden Tornadoes; eight of the 13 shots would be on target for LBC… the Chargers would also finish ahead in the corner kick total 6-2.

Information to Know: The past three season openers for the Chargers have featured at least three goals scored and each has been a shutout by the defense.

Up Next: The Chargers will look to build momentum on the west-side of Pennsylvania as they take on Grove City at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
