Coming off an impressive 5-0 win Saturday in their conference opener against Penn College, the Lancaster Bible men's soccer team pushed past the Nittany Lions of Penn St. Berks with a 3-0 victory in their second United East Conference game of the year. The Chargers would see three second-half goals from
Marcos Nunez,
Jackson Shreiner, and
Matthew Eufemia. Lancaster Bible will move to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play while Penn St. Berks is now 1-5-1 and 0-1 in conference.
Â
How It Happened: The first half would be a dogfight defensively between both programs featuring only four shots and five corner kicks. Despite both teams being held scoreless in the first half, it would seem like the Chargers would hold the momentum with three of the four shots and all five corners going to the Chargers. Nate Muckle,
Andrew Cox, and
Kedric Yoder would all place shots on goal in the first half.
Â
It would only be a matter of time until the Chargers would break the barrier and place one on the board. To open the second half the Chargers would place four consecutive shots on goal from
Clark Shreiner, Cox, Yoder, but it would be
Marcos Nunez who would head a loose ball in the inside right post of the goal at the 48
th minute.
Â
Not but three minutes later would
Jackson Shreiner capitalize off a failed clear by the Penn St. defense to bump the lead to 2-0, Chargers. The Chargers would continue to make offensive push after offensive push, finding their third goal a little after the 74
th minute on a header from sophomore
Matthew Eufemia with an assist given to fellow sophomore
Devyn Kintzer. This would be Eufemia's second goal on the season and Kintzer's second assist.
Â
The Chargers defense' would also hold strong from any chance of a counterattack from Penn St. Berks. At the end of the match the final score would be 3-0 Chargers, giving them their second United East Conference win.
Â
From the Coach: "Tough match today which was a good test for our group. I'm proud of the response we had second half and the times we were able to break them down. Good effort from our guys and we now will work towards Saturday." – Head Coach Tommy Ardt
Â
By the Numbers: The Chargers would have a total of 19 shots including nine on goal while Penn St. Berks would only have three shots… the Chargers would finish with 9 corner kicks and two saves… Nunez, Shreiner, and Eufemia would all score for the Chargers
.
