Women's Soccer Loses to Penn St. Berks

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team traveled to Reading, Pa this afternoon to face-off against Penn St. Berks in their second conference game of the 2022 season. Coming off a tough 2-1 loss to Penn College in their United East debut, the Chargers would fall in a match that would heavily favor the Nittany Lions. The final would come to 9-1, Penn St. Berks. The loss moves the Chargers to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the United East. The Lions move to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in conference play.

How It Happened: The Chargers would battle tough to start the game, holding off the Nittany Lions' attacks. In the 23rd minute, the Lions would find the net and catch fire scoring in the 24th, 25th, and 26th minutes.

After rushing to a four to zero lead, Penn St. Berks would score two more goals before heading to halftime with a 6-0 lead.

Looking to bounce back, the story would be the same as the Lions would score three more in the second half. The Chargers would find the net in the 73rd minute off a header from sophomore Jade Weir on a corner kick from teammate Naomi Ewing. The game would finish with a lopsided 9-1 final.

From the Coach: "Definitely couldn't have gone much worse for us today. What can you say, we struggled to do anything well against a really good team. Now we just rebound the best we can for an important conference game Saturday." – Head Coach Jake Warren

By the Numbers: The Lions would finish with 29 shots on goal while the Chargers would be limited to three… Berks would hold the advantage in corner kicks 6-1… Goalkeeper Erin Mikula would record nine saves.

Up Next: The Chargers will return home for Homecoming weekend as they match up against another conference foe in St. Mary's (MD.) on Saturday, September 24th at 12 p.m.
