The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team couldn't overcome the second half deficit and eventually fell to SUNY Morrisville 41-58 on Friday night. The Chargers suffer their second United East Conference loss, moving to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference, while the Mustangs move to 7-0 in conference play.
How It Happened: The Chargers started strong, scoring 15 first quarter points including threes from
Shelby Gard,
Adalyn Steiner, and
Sydney Heller. Senior
Adalyn Steiner scored seven of the 15 and the Chargers led 15-12 at the end of the first.
The second quarter turned into a dogfight between both squads, with the lead changing a total of four times in just ten minutes.
Adalyn Steiner scored the last four points for the Chargers to take a 25-24 lead with 1:16 left in the first half. The Mustangs made a free throw with just 53 seconds left, tying the game at 25-25 and sending both teams to the locker room tied at halftime.
Junior
Alaysha Iwais opened the second half with a three-point field goal of her own, giving the Chargers their first and only lead of the second half. The Mustangs responded with a monster 16-0 run and finished the third quarter with a 41-31 lead.
The Chargers opened the fourth quarter with another Iwais three-pointer and an
Irene Were layup, bringing the deficit within six. The Mustangs responded once again and finished the game with a seventeen-point lead, 58-41.
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 25% (15-60) from the field and 25% (7-28) from the three point line… the Mustangs shot 34.9% (22-63) from the field and 21% (6-28) from behind the arc… the Chargers scored 14 second chance points and 12 points in the paint… the Mustangs scored 32 points in the paint…
Adalyn Steiner led the Chargers with 16 points and nine rebounds…

Alaysha Iwais contributed seven and six points respectively… Hammersley led all scorers with 19 points… Mustangs' Walker and Vieira scored 17 and 16 points.
Information to Know: The Chargers are currently sitting tied for third place in the United East standings with St. Mary's (Md.). Both squads are 4-2 in conference play while the Chargers have one extra win overall.
