Track & Field Compete Well at Moravian Indoor Meet

PC: Jalen Glasgow
The Lancaster Bible College track and field program traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Moravian University Indoor Meet at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse against several other NCAA programs including a few Division I teams. The Chargers saw several team bests and great competition on Saturday.

The Chargers saw three more school records broken after six records were broken last weekend. Mitchell Gray set yet another school record in the 3,000 meters, besting his time from last weekend by about nine seconds with a time of 9:06.02. Along with the new school record, Gray's performance also qualified for the NCCAA national championships held later in February. Fellow long distance teammate Daniel Lefko also set a new school record in the 5,000 meters, finishing 14th and running a time of 16:57.82. Freshman Janae Bergey also joined the record-breaking crew this weekend, knocking .47 off her previous best in the 200 meter race from the first meet of the season. She ran a 28.75 which placed her fifth overall.

Leah Bergey continued her dominant performance on the track, edging out a St. Joseph's hurdler in the 60m final by one hundredth of a second. Her final time came out to 9.09 to take home first in the event. Emma Rohn ran a strong 800-meter run finishing with a time of 2:53.25.

The 4x400m men's team comprised of Jack Dearborn, Adam Horning, Joey Benedict, and Mitchell Gray managed a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:44.27. The 4x400m women's team (Elizabeth Lieb, Kendal Ream, Emma Rohn, and Kara Huber) also made a top ten finish with a time of 4:36.78.

For the field events, Kara Huber finished 11th in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.89m. Jack Dearborn placed 12th with a long jump of 5.91m. Freshman Lucas Durkin registered 11.20m for the shot put and Devyn Kintzer finished 7th in the high jump, clearing a height of 5'8".

"This is the toughest competition we've seen so far in the indoor season. We have a lot of positive takeaways from today. Our mid and long-distance runners really stepped up running huge personal records! I am proud of their efforts today!" - Head Coach Melissa Baughman

Up Next: The Chargers continue their indoor season by returning to Franklin & Marshall on Friday, January 27th to compete in the Mini Dip Meet.
