The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team secured their second win of the season in a 3-1 match over Misericordia University on Tuesday night. The Chargers remain unbeaten at the Horst Athletic Center improving to a 2-1 overall record while the Cougars move to 2-6 overall.
Â
How It Happened: It was an exciting night between two evenly matched teams in the Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers jumped out to an early 5-2 lead thanks to opening kills from
Elijah Herb and
Jake Rotelle. The Cougars responded rapidly, bringing the deficit within one point. After trading a series of points, the Chargers took a demanding 17-12 lead before the Cougars rattled off seven unanswered points, taking a 21-20 lead over the Chargers. Continuing to ride their momentum, the Cougars increased the lead to 24-20. The Chargers weren't going to go down without a fight, putting up five points capped by a freshman
Tyler Martin ace to give the Chargers a 25-24 edge. A Cougar kill tied it at 25 all, but an MUÂ service error and service ace from
Christian Herr sealed a Chargers comeback and huge first set win.
Â
The second set was much of the same story as the teams traded points, putting together run after run. The Chargers again found themselves down 22-24 with the game on the line, but a Rotelle kill and a
Hunter Davis ace put the Chargers up 25-24. The Cougars learned from the previous set though, making sure to put the game away and winning 28-26.
Â
The third set was tied up until the 17
th point when the Chargers' offensive jets helped them run out to a 21-17 lead behind kills from Herb,
Dawson Forney, and
Ben Latham. The Cougars managed to score a few more points before another Herb kill secured the third set and gave the Chargers a momentous 2-1 match lead.
Â
With momentum on their side, the Chargers put together several offensive spurts that the Cougars would respond to. It wasn't until a kill from
DJ Omogrosso started another Charger rally that grew the lead to 16-10 following two kills from Herb. Another Herb kill and a Martin ace moved the score to 18-11. Two kills from Davis and an ace from Herr led to the biggest lead of the night from either team at 21-12. The Chargers finished the fourth set winning 25-17 and completing the 3-1 match win, the Chargers' second win of the season.
