Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Suffer First United East Loss of Season

The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team squared off against United East Conference foe Penn College under the lights Donald H. Funk Field on Monday night. It was a tough night for the Chargers as the Wildcats used a late surge to win 3-1 and hand the Chargers their first conference loss. The Chargers fall to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in conference, the Wildcats improve to 7-1-5 overall and 1-1-1 in conference.

How It Happened: The first half was nothing short of action-packed as the Wildcats found the scoreboard just 3:35 into the game. The Chargers didn't sit back though as four minutes later, sophomore Leah Perrault sent a ball to the middle of the field to find teammate Kendal Ream, who made an athletic play on the ball to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team found the net again in the first half, but the teams combined for a total of nine shots and seven corners to keep the fans in attendance on the edge of their seats.

Opening the second half, both teams continued to vie for possession looking to find a gap within either team's stout defenses. It wasn't until 25 minutes that the Wildcats found just that as Egan placed a rebound off a blocked free kick into the goal at the 70th minute. With the Wildcats now up one and twenty minutes left to play, the Chargers looked to even the game, but another Wildcats goal with under ten minutes left to play exasperated all hope.

The Wildcats went on to win 3-1 to give the Chargers their first conference loss.

By the Numbers: The Chargers were edged out in shots 12-8 while the Wildcats tallied six total shots on goal… the Chargers had three saves to the Wildcats' one… the Chargers won the corner kick battle 6-3… Ream had the lone Chargers goal with Perrault getting the assist… Darlington, Egan, and Sheetz all had a goal for the Wildcats.

Information to Know: The matchup tonight featured two of the top goal scorers in the United East in Kaelynn Sheetz (14) and Kendal Ream (12)…. this is the fourth loss to the Wildcats with the most recent coming from a 2-1 loss to open conference play last year.

Up Next: The Chargers head to Scranton, Pa. for a non-conference matchup with Marywood on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
