The Lancaster Bible College Women's Soccer team faced off against the Goucher Gophers at home on Wednesday night for their last regular season game before playoffs. The game ended with the Chargers losing 3-1 to the Gophers. The Chargers drop to 9-6-2 on the season, while the Gophers improved to 4-5-7 on the season.
How It Happened: The Chargers headed into their last regular season game with the hopes to secure a win headed into the playoffs. The game started off even though neither team controlled possession nor forced any offensive attacks. That was until freshman Haley Moyer sent a pass to senior Kendal Ream which led to a penalty in the box on the goalie, 17 minutes in. Ream proceeded to drill the penalty kick in the bottom right corner out of the goalies reach, which gave the Chargers the early 1-0 lead. Both teams continued to battle it out, until Gophers got a good look tying the game up with 5 minutes left to play in the half. Gophers snuck one more in to end the half, putting the Gophers up 2-1.
The Chargers headed into the second half looking to tie the game back up or gain the lead. The Chargers and Gophers both exchanged offensive attacks, but the Gophers were more aggressive as they were able to net the first goal of the second half in the 23-minute giving them a 3-1 lead.
The rest of the game was played even with both teams unable to add anything else offensively. The game ended with the Gophers beating the Chargers 3-1.
By the Numbers: The Chargers trailed the Gophers in shots having 2 shots compared to their 13... the Gophers also led in corners 6-0... the Chargers had more saves than the Gophers 6-0... Ream had one goal.
Information to Know: The Chargers record against the Gophers moves to 6-5 in Chargers favor... the Chargers previously won four games in a row against the Gophers (2013, 2014, 2021, 2022)... this is only the fourth time the Chargers have allowed three goals this season.
