The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team faced the #6 ranked Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen for a road game on Tuesday evening that ended in a 3-3 draw. The Chargers moved to 4-5-2 on the season, while the Dutchmen moved to 8-1-1 on the season.
Â
How It Happened:Â The Chargers headed into the home of the Dutchmen looking to extend their win streak from the week prior after going 2-0. The Dutchmen seemed to dominate the first half offensively as they fired off 11 shots, but the Chargers held firm defensively, not allowing a single one of those shots to be converted.
Although the Chargers' offense was minimal, they were able to capitalize on their few attempts as sophomore
Andrew Cox placed a shot right in the bottom right corner off a pass from junior
Devyn Kintzer. This gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead 35 minutes into the first half. The score stayed the same to round out the half with the Chargers leading.
Â
Entering the second half both teams looked to push the tempo; the Chargers looked to extend their lead and the Dutchmen searched for their first goal. The Chargers struck first, scoring their second goal of the night as Cox once again found the bottom right corner. No less than 5 minutes later, the Dutchmen were able to get on the scoreboard with a high center goal. This made the score 2-1 in Chargers' favor with 19 minutes left of play.
Â
Those 19 minutes were an offensive battle, as both teams traded goals. Kintzer scored the Chargers' third goal, placing it in the center of the net to extend the lead to 3-1. Seeming as if the Chargers were going to secure the upset, the Dutchmen were able to get within one goal after scoring just twenty seconds after Kintzer's goal. With the game drawing to a close and the seconds ticking away, the Dutchmen got one final free kick on a questionable foul call outside the goalie's box, which they were able to convert with just 30 seconds to go in the game.
Through tough defensive and offensive efforts for both teams, the game ultimately ended up finishing in a 3-3 draw.
Â
By the Numbers:Â The Chargers trailed in shots 29-8... the Chargers only had one corner kick compared to the Dutchmen's 12... the Chargers led in saves with 8-0... Cox scored twice and Kintzer scored once... Kintzer had the lone assist.
Â
Information to Know: This was the Chargers' first matchup with Lebanon Valley in program history... this is the second year in a row that the Chargers have tied with a nationally ranked team after tying #18 Franklin & Marshall on October 12, 2022.
Andrew Cox now has 11 goals on the season, the most by a Charger since Josiah Groff scored 13 times in 2015.
