Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Bested by Giants in Semis

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team traveled to La Plume, Pa. on Wednesday night for a United East semifinal matchup with the one-seed Keystone Giants. The Giants beat the Chargers 10-0 to end the Chargers' 2023 campaign. The Chargers finish the season 4-13 while the Giants improve to 10-5 overall and move on to the United East Conference Championship on Saturday.

How It Happened: The Chargers battled early as the defense stepped up big time, with sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Hoover getting two key saves to start the game. The early defense though wasn't enough as the Giants grabbed two goals just before the end of the first period.

The Giants came out the second period firing, getting three goals in a row to make it a 5-0 lead in their favor. The Chargers responded towards the end of the half with an offensive run, including two penalty corners and shot on goal from Haley Stahl. The offense continued to find gaps in the Giants' defense, but they were unable to convert as the Giants offense added two more goals to their five-goal lead.

The fourth period featured three goals from three different players for the Giants as the Chargers began to run out of steam, leading to a 10-0 win for the Chargers.

From the Coach: "While this was a tough way to end the season, we can't say enough about this team's grit, positivity, improvement from last year, and sportsmanship. We are seeing the fruits of our hard work, commitment, and culture and are excited about the future.

We are grateful for the connections we have made with each other and other teams. Thank you to our parents, our fans, our athletic trainer, home game day crew, media crew, bus drivers, and most importantly, all praise to God for giving us this season. ALL for H1M!"  - Head Coach Becky Elliott

By the Numbers: The Chargers were outshot 22-2… the Chargers defense tallied six total saves… the penalty corners were 10-3 in favor of the Giants.

Congratulations to the team and its senior, Alyssa Hamilton, for their 2023 season!
