Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Ben James

Lancaster Bible Secures Commanding Win Against Gallaudet in Conference Opener

In their first conference game of the 2023-24 season, Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team picked up an 88-54 win on the road at Gallaudet. This puts the Chargers at a 2-3 overall record and 1-0 in the United East. Meanwhile, the Bison dropped to 0-8 after losing their first conference game.

How It Happened: In the team's first game back from Thanksgiving break, the Chargers showed no signs of rust on the first possession as Malachi McDowell came away with a steal and assisted on a Grant Sareyka transition three. Lancaster Bible kept up the pace and took a 15-6 lead a quarter into the first half. After the Bison came rumbling back, sophomore Luke Rumbaugh drilled two straight threes to take a 14-point lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the first. For nearly five minutes, the Chargers were stuck in a scoring drought, but ended the half by scoring 14 unanswered points in just over two minutes. Following the scoring barrage, the team entered halftime up 50-22.

After ending the first half on fire, the Chargers dueled in a tightly contested second half with both sides scoring eight points in the first five minutes of the period. However, a Ty Erisman three-pointer sparked seven straight points for Lancaster Bible to pull away with a 65-33 lead. The Bison tried their hardest to fight back in the second half as the second-half score was a tight 38-32 in the favor of Lancaster Bible. Ultimately, the Chargers' lead was too large to overcome, and they came out with a convincing 88-54 win.

From the Coach: "I thought the key to the game was our 12-2 start. We stressed playing with a sense of urgency throughout the entire game and for the most part, we did. We did have a few lapses when we stopped competing on the boards and not valuing the ball, which led to high percentage baskets for Gallaudet. We definitely have a lot of room to improve on the defensive end and on the glass, but proud of some positive strides we made on both ends of the floor. I thought our bench was a major factor today as well. We had great contributions on both ends and great effort plays that are not reflected on a stat sheet." - Head Coach Jon Mack

By the Numbers:
- Both Daniel King and Ty Erisman scored 15 points in tonight's outing
- Luke Rumbaugh added 12 points on 3-4 three-point shooting
- Lancaster Bible had 27 assists and 17 turnovers to Gallaudet's nine and 34
- Alex Antsiferov led the Bison with 11 points, four rebounds, and four blocks

Information to Know: The conference rivals have faced off 25 times now, and Lancaster Bible picked up their 16th win against the Bison. Since his arrival in the 2019-20 season, Head Coach Jon Mack now holds a perfect 7-0 record against the Bison.

Up Next: The Chargers will take on another United East rival as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, December 2 to play at 1:00 p.m.
