Following the game, the Chargers hold a record of 1-5 and are 0-1 in the conference. On the other hand, the Bison are 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the United East.
Â
How It Happened:Â The Bison started the first three minutes with six straight points, and
Raven Hunter answered with back-to-back buckets of her own. However, Gallaudet continued to outscore Lancaster Bible by 12 in the first quarter as they entered the second period with a 21-7 lead.
Faith Hammond started out the second quarter with a quick basket from a Hunter assist. That same duo posted a handful of free throws in the next two minutes, but the Bison still held a 13-point lead. In the remainder of the quarter,
Alaysha Iwais scored five points in an effort to help the team overcome a substantial deficit, but despite the Chargers' competitive second quarter, Gallaudet maintained a 41-25 lead going into halftime.Â
Â
The third quarter started with some early action featuring two consecutive buckets from Hunter and a block from Wenger. Senior
Jenna Dombach scored five straight points to get herself on the scoreboard and cut the deficit to 11. The Chargers continued to score including a second three-pointer from Iwais, but the Bison kept scoring as well and carried a 60-44 lead into the final quarter of play. Although they were down, Lancaster Bible would not go down swinging, and Hunter continued her outstanding night with her first three of the night. The fourth quarter was impressive for Lancaster Bible as they scored 20 to Gallaudet's 22. In the end, the Chargers kept pace with the Bison in quarters two through four, but lost 82-64.Â
From the Coach: "After being down 14 at the end of the 1st quarter we could have easily hung our heads and said it's just not our night, but the girls battled and essentially played them even the rest of the way. Really proud of our effort as well as the growth we continue to make." - Head Coach Ryan Carpenter
