Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Late Rally Falls Short of Highlanders

The Lancaster Bible College Men's Basketball team squared off against fellow Bible college Cairn University on Saturday evening. After entering halftime with a 40-27 lead, the Chargers couldn't stop the second half rally from the Highlanders, eventually falling 75-69. The Chargers are now 3-7 overall while Cairn improves to 7-4 overall.

How It Happened: It was a jumper from Maureon Tisdale-Couch and three-pointer from Ty Erisman that got the Chargers out to an early 5-0 lead. The Highlanders started to chip away eventually finding themselves within one possession, but an 11-4 run sealed by a corner three-pointer from Connor Storr brought the lead to 21-12 with 11:55 to go in the first half. Continuing to keep their distance, two layups from Storr and a jumper from Grant Sareyka gave the Chargers their largest lead of the game 38-23 with under two minutes left.

Following halftime, the Highlanders started the second half with a newfound intensity bringing the deficit to within one point, 45-44, just over five minutes into the second half. The Highlanders continued to capitalize on the momentum taking the lead. The Chargers found themselves down by 12 points, 67-55, with under five minutes to go.

A heightened defensive pressure kept the Chargers alive as forced turnovers and free throws from Tisdale-Couch, Seth Beers, and a layup from Isaiah Mitchell brought it to five points at 2:53. A minute left in regulation, a pull-up three pointer from Beers off another Chargers steal brought it to 71-69. Despite the late run, the Highlanders managed to pull out some timely free throws to escape with a 75-69 win.

By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 35-percent (25-71) from the field, 26-percent (6-23) from the three-point arc, and 65-percent from the charity stripe (13-20)… the Highlanders shot 49-percent (31-63) from the field and 25-percent (3-12) from three… the Highlanders won the rebound battle by three while tallying 18 fast break points… the Chargers finished with 18 assists and 24 points off the bench… Connor Storr and Seth Beers notched double-figures for the Chargers while Beers added seven assists and Storr added seven rebounds… Derian Bradford scored a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds.
