The Lancaster Bible College track and field team opened competition Friday at the 2023 National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field National Championships and had strong showings from several different Charger student-athletes.

The day was highlighted by junior
Leah Bergey who ended up finishing second overall in the pentathlon and being earning NCCAA All-American honors. Bergey finished with 3,220 total points, just 246 points behind the first overall, and placed first in the 60-meter hurdles. Teammate
Emma Rohn also competed in the pentathlon earning herself 11
th overall with 2,149 points. Rohn finished sixth overall in the high jump, her best finish of the night.

Kara Huber came into the pole vault event ranked 8
th overall but managed to finish 5
th overall setting a personal record of 2.97-meters (9' 9"). A strong showing for the senior.

On the men's side,
Mitchell Gray competed in his first event being the 5000-meter run. Gray, who was originally set at 14
th coming into the weekend, finished with a time of 15:48.33 to help him earn fifth place overall.

Both men and women 4x200-meter relay teams also performed well to end day one of the championships. The women's team of
Elizabeth Lieb,
Kendal Ream,
Janae Bergey, and
Kara Huber managed to place eighth overall with a time of 1:54.89. The men's team of
Jack Dearborn,
Joey Benedict,
Adam Horning, and
Jalen Glasgow finished 10
th overall with a time of 1:38.19.

It was an exciting day for the Chargers' track and field program, and a day to build off as they head into day two of the NCCAA Championships tomorrow.
