Men's Track & Field Hunter Gerber

NCCAA Indoor Championships: Day Two Recap

The Lancaster Bible College Track and Field teams finished the 2023 National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday, February 11th. The Chargers saw great improvement with several personal bests and school records to close out the indoor season.

Day two action consisted of Logan Burkholder placing seventh overall in the heptathlon with a total of 3,611 points. This was just under 200 points more than his previous best of 3,413 points.

Coming off a great finish to the 5,000-meter run on Friday, Mitchell Gray was able to finish 15th overall in the Mile Run with a time of 4:40.41.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Elizabeth Lieb, Kendal Ream, Janae Bergey, and Kara Huber crushed their race, taking 11 whole seconds off their best time. Their performance helped them earn sixth place overall and set a new school record with a time of 4:22.77.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Devyn Kintzer, Adam Horning, Jalen Glasgow, and Daniel Lefko finished 13th overall with a time of 3:47.92.

In addition, freshman Jack Dearborn, in his first post-season competition, managed to place tenth overall in the triple jump event with a jump of 12.45 meters (40' 10.25").

Several school records were set this weekend as Leah Bergey broke the 60-meter hurdles, 800-meter run, and pentathlon's previous record. Perhaps her most impressive finish was the 60-meter hurdles which she finished first overall and ran a monster 8.85 seconds. This time placed her in the top ten all-time at the NCCAA Championships and set a Doden Field House record at Cedarville University. Her pentathlon score of 3,220 points placed her second overall earning All-American honors and seventh all-time in NCCAA history. Senior Kara Huber's pole vault of 2.97 meters not only helped her finish 5th overall yesterday but set a new school record as well.

From the Coach: "It was a great weekend of competition. Our program continues to progress culminating in our first top ten finish in NCCAA indoor nationals on the women's side. We saw lots of PRs these last two days across the board, and we are proud of how well they competed." – Head Coach Melissa Baughman
