Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Hunter Gerber

Chargers Swept at Marymount

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team traveled to Marymount University in Arlington, Va. to take on the #15 nationally ranked team losing in a hard fought three sets on Friday night. The loss breaks the Chargers six game win streak moving them to 9-4 overall while the Saints improve to 12-4 on the year.

How It Happened: The Chargers started the night swinging as they kept pace with the Saints matching every point. It wasn't until the thirteenth point for the Chargers off a block from Kevin Koch and Dawson Forney that the Chargers tied the Saints for the first time. Despite evening up the score, the Chargers weren't able to take the lead and fell 25-18 after the Saints went on two significant runs.

Looking for a spark offensively in the second set, senior Elijah Herb was the answer beginning the second set with a kill and the Chargers first lead of the night. The Chargers managed to keep the lead all the way up until 8-5 when the Saints responded with seven unanswered points to take a 12-8 lead. The Chargers weren't able to regain the lead as the Saints won 25-22 in the second set.

With a two-set advantage, the Saints capitalized in the third set starting with five unanswered points. The Saints limited any opportunity for the Chargers to put together a run and won the third and final set 25-7.

By the Numbers: The Chargers were edged out in kills 47-21… and had four blocks on the night to the Saints five blocks… Elijah Herb led the Chargers with eight kills and had five digs… Hunter Davis and Dawson Forney added five kills each… Kevin Koch had two blocks… Michael Myers had the lone ace for the Chargers… Christian Herr had 20 assists and Tanner Shertzer had a team high nine digs… Diego Pena had a game high 15 kills for the Saints.

Up Next: The Chargers head to Messiah on Wednesday, March 1 for another non-conference matchup set to begin at 7:00 pm.
