Â
How It Happened: The Mustangs were the first to find the scoreboard tonight, which would end up being their only lead of the night. A good three-point field goal from graduate student
Jordan Shewbridge got the Chargers going. Shewbridge went on to score 10 of the Chargers first 16 points in just five minutes of the game. The Mustangs cut the lead to within two points at the 14-minute mark when a three-point field goal from
Ty Erisman started a 9-0 run, increasing the Charger lead to 25-14.
Â
The Chargers kept the lead around eight to 12 points consistently for the first half, stopping any potential Mustang run with baskets of their own. The biggest lead of the first half came with just 19 seconds left to play when junior
Seth Beers got out in transition and made a fantastic finish for an and-one, giving the Chargers a 16-point advantage. The Chargers headed to halftime winning 52-38.
Â
Shewbridge didn't waste any time in the second half coming off his 20 points in the first half with another three off a Stoltzfus assist.
Adam Stoltzfus added two more layups and junior
Grant Sareyka got out in transition to bring the lead to 61-44. Sareyka continued to pour on the attack offensively with a layup and back-to-back three pointers to bring the lead to as much as 25 points. Between the guard play of Sareyka, Beers, and Shewbridge and the big-man dominance of Stoltzfus and Zentner, the Chargers managed to keep the lead in double digits the entire second half, helping them cruise to their sixth straight win and an important road win in conference play.
