Chargers Softball Swept by Penn St. Abington

The Lancaster Bible College Softball team squared off against United East foe Penn St. Abington Lions on Friday afternoon, falling twice by scores of 2-1 and 8-0. The Chargers fall to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Lions improve to 8-6 on the year and 2-2 in conference.

Game One, 2-1 Loss

How It Happened: This was a defensive battle from the beginning as senior Chloe King singled to left field, sending teammate Alyssa Hamilton to score in the first inning and weren't able to find the scoreboard again for the remainder of the game. The Lions managed to tie the game in the 5th inning and sent the game winning run home in the top of the 7th. Looking for a bottom of the 7th rally, the Chargers' efforts fell just short as they lost 2-1.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had eight hits on the game including one run and one RBI… the Lions managed to have five hits for two runs and two RBIs… senior Adalyn Steiner had two hits… Lions pitcher Gretchen Yanss struck out 11 batters.

Game Two, 8-0 Loss

How It Happened: Unable to build momentum from the first game, the Chargers couldn't find the scoreboard in the second game and managed only two hits. The Lions had eight hits for eight runs which came in the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and four runs in the 7th inning.

By the Numbers: The Chargers had two hits, one walk, and four stolen bases… the Lions had eight hits, eight runs, and 6 RBIs… Sheyenne King and Noelle Martin had the lone hits for the Chargers.

Up Next: The Chargers return to their home field for another United East double header against Penn St. Berks on Sunday, April 2nd beginning at 3:00 p.m.
