Spring Break Softball: Day One

The Lancaster Bible College softball team traveled down to the warmth of the South in Myrtle Beach, S.C. to play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic this week. The Chargers will play eight games over just four days as they open their 2023 campaign. The Chargers dropped their first two games of the week on Sunday, March 5th in a tightly contested battle against Ursinus, 4-5, and then to Sweet Briar, 4-10. The Chargers fall to 0-2 overall to start the season.

Chargers Fall in a Close One against Ursinus, 4-5

The Chargers put the first run on the board in the top of the first as junior Phoebe Clemens hit a hard grounder to the short-stop to send graduate student Hannah Lieb home. Ursinus responded with a run of their own tying it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning. In the following inning, Alyssa Paulson, who had a great first game with two hits and two RBIs, singled and after several miscues, Chloe King scored. Paulson would again single in the fourth inning, sending Steiner home to make it a 3-1 Charger lead. Ursinus scored four more unanswered runs through the fifth inning to take the lead 5-3. Looking for a rally in the sixth inning, senior Adalyn Steiner flew out to right field, sending Clemens to home and brining the deficit within one run, but Ursinus stopped the run there.
