Chargers Close Out Penn St. Abington Series with Win

The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played the final game of their three-game conference series with Penn St. Abington on Saturday, winning 12-8. Following the win, the Chargers improve to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the United East, while the Lions drop to 11-10 and 6-3 in conference play.

How It Happened: The Chargers wasted no time, jumping to an early 4-0 lead after just one inning of play. Beginning with sophomore Harrison Madagan, who walked in a run after a hit by pitch, Adam Naylor followed with a sac fly to right field, sending in Blake Greenly. Freshman Evan Sareyka sent a single up the third base line to score James Toney and Thade Hague singled, sending in Madagan to end the inning.

The Lions answered with a two-run shot, cutting the lead to 4-2, but a Coburn single sent Greenly home in the bottom of the second to bring the lead to three, 5-2. The Lions homered in the top of the third to make it a 5-3 ballgame. After two scoreless innings, Madagan sent a homer to left field to get the Chargers going again. Greenly sent another home run in the next inning scoring two, and Naylor scored Toney on a fielder's choice. The Chargers led 9-3 after seven innings of play.

With both teams facing crunch time, the Lions rattled off three home runs in the top of the 8th inning to bring the game within two runs, 9-7. Not to be outdone, Greenly stepped up and hit his second home run of the game, bringing in Dylan Witkowski with him. Toney stepped right up to send yet another home run over the center field fence, bringing the Charger lead back to 12-7.

Just needing three outs, the Lions managed to score one run in the 9th before Brian Coburn turned a sweet 6-3 double-play, and Greenly struck out the final batter.
