Baseball Falls to Cairn at Home

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team squared off against the Cairn Highlanders on a rainy Wednesday evening in their last non-conference game of the 2023 campaign. The Chargers ended up falling to the Highlanders 10-4. The Chargers fall to 13-23 overall while staying 9-9 in conference, and the Highlanders improve to 15-17 overall.

How It Happened: Both the Chargers and Highlanders got things going early as they came away from the 1st inning tied 2-2. The Highlanders Spadea had a two-run shot in the first while a Blake Greenly double scored Dylan Witkowski and Evan Sareyka sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Greenly in the bottom of the inning.

Cairn hit a grand slam in the next inning, to take a 6-2 lead. Senior James Toney hit his fifth home run of the week in the bottom of the 3rd inning to bring it to within three runs, but the Highlanders answered with four more runs of their own through five innings of play. In the 7th inning, Toney singled to right field to bring in Greenly, but the Chargers couldn't close the gap before the game was called due to lack of light, resulting in a 10-4 loss.

By the Numbers: The Chargers grabbed six hits for four runs and four RBIs… the Highlanders had 10 hits for 10 runs and nine RBIs… Toney went 2-3 on the day with a home run and two RBIs… Sareyka and Greenly added an RBI each… several players had two hits for the Highlanders including Meisel who grabbed four RBIs.

Up Next: The Chargers will finish off the regular season with an in-conference series with Wells which is still yet to be rescheduled due to forecasted weather this weekend.
